23 June 2011
A rain interrupted Winternationals resulted in a postponement of the event until 15 – 17 July 2011.
The Nitro Voodoo Team was pumped for a strong result, only to see rain saturate the track two days into the event.
The two Qualifying passes completed by Group One Top Bike saw Matheson Top Qualify with a loose 6.5 second pass.
Matheson said “the first pass is traditionally a tough one after not riding the bike for some time”.
Matheson said “the track was the best he had seen all season and was looking promising for the Team to lay down big numbers”.
The second pass was a much better riding effort from Matheson, seeing the Voodoo machine launch hard and straight down the track.
Despite smoking the tyre in the early stages of the run, forcing Matheson to back off to allow the rear tyre to grip, the bike still ran a 6.9 sec ET.
Notwithstanding the two soft passes, the Nitro Voodoo Team still recorded the quickest qualifying pass.
The re-run of the meeting in mid July will see two more Qualifying passes on Saturday 16th, with Eliminations the following day.
Matheson said “the Team is excited to get a second chance to run a good number to wrap up the end of the Season and the Championship”.
