Melbourne baker Wayne Price will be making his first appearance at Adelaide International Raceway for next weekend’s Aeroflow Summer Speedfest, which features the third round of the ANDRA Top Alcohol Championship.
Price’s 400kmh Funny Car has been on the improve in recent events, reaching the semi finals at the Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway and setting a new personal best time of 5.68 seconds for the quarter mile (402m).
With the unique Adelaide event being run over 1000 feet, Price said after getting a feel for the track he would like to begin to see what it can hold.
“I’d like to think we can run into the fours over 1000 feet but not having been on the track before I am not 100% on how the car will react to the Adelaide surface,” he said.
The team has recently added a fuel timing system to the Funny Car in order to better control power application and Price said they are only just starting to get a handle on how it works.
“We have put a lot of new stuff on the car and have been experimenting using fuel timers; we are getting quicker every time we go out,” he said. “We will try to get down the track safely and once we have been down there we can start to lean on it.”
Price has raced in Top Doorslammer as well but has found his home in Top Alcohol, revelling in the tightness of the racing.
“We’re really enjoying the competiveness in the sport and we also have a lot of room to improve yet ourselves so we really love the category,” he said. “I like the centre steer cars and the experience can be overwhelming with the acceleration and tyre shake. Everything has to come together for a perfect run.”
Price will be joined in Adelaide by a tough field including national champion Gary Phillips, former national champions Steve Reed and Wayne Newby, reigning event winner John Cannuli, Aeroflow driver Rick Gauci and South Australian stars Gary Busch, Yak Probst and Frank Intini.
The Aeroflow Summer Speedfest runs from February 23-24 at Adelaide International Raceway.
