The Perth Motorplex Nostalgias will go down as one of the best old school events yet held in Western Australia with a great turnout of cars and spectators on a brilliant April day.
It started early with the Cranksters swap meet offering all manner of gear up for sale, from whole cars, to superchargers, to nitrous kits – well let’s just say if you didn’t have a hot rod coming into the Motorplex you could quite easily have built one up from the swap meet!
The action quickly moved on to the drag strip as our competitors for the day had a ball with big smokey burnouts and some tearing passes up the quarter mile.
The show and shine had something for everyone and it wasn’t just a case of seeing them stay still either, as entrants were given the opportunity to go for a cruise around the return road and drag strip in the early afternoon.
Some took their family for a spin while others were just showing off to the fans.
It wasn’t just the drag strip that was seeing race action, as the dirt track also got a workout. These were just demonstrations on the day but may become a larger part of future nostalgia events.
It was a great event just for people watching too – that individual style that is such a part of nostalgia was on display every where you looked.
In the end there had to be some winners. Street Machine was taken out by Brad Pettitt over Tony Zaccaria, Oz Muscle went to a very happy Georgia McSweeney against Danny Silver, Peter Jasiorowski picked up the US Muscle victory over Benton Moran, John Muscat won the popular Hot Rod bracket against Brett Ramsey and Ethan Hort claimed Top Gas against Noel Pratt. Paul Ryan was the Middle Eliminator winner in the Chicago Shootout against Aaron Bright, while Top Eliminator was limited to some exhibition passes – though Shannon Taylor impressed with some stout figures from the Top Alcohol altered!
There were also trophies given away in the pits for the show and shine in the categories of hot rod open, hot rod closed, street machine, custom and classic bike. Thanks to the good people at Shannons for their support.
We hope everybody really enjoyed the event and will be back again next year!
Remember if you are after another day full of classics, the Everything Chrysler Day on May 17 at Perth Motorplex may just be up your alley…
