Jason Grima has a realistic shot at a top five finish in the ANDRA Pro Series following a semi finals appearance at the Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway.
The Sydneysider was so serious about putting himself into a mental groove that he set up boot camp at the track in the week leading up to the event, looking to gain an edge on the competition.
Grima qualified his PC Group Ford Mustang into fifth with a 7.057sec and then ran to round victories over Jason Hedges and Bill Kotsias. Dave Newcombe finally ended the streak but Grima still found plenty to be happy about following the event.
“The PC Group Team were over the moon with the results in qualifying,” he said. “Each time we ran the car we had new personal best elapsed times, speeds and 60 foot (launch) times.
“The track conditions were fantastic and the team worked very hard to give me the best car possible. A win would have been better but it’s tough in this class, and we were just beaten by a better car.
“I’d also like to congratulate Peter Ridgeway who recorded the first official six-second pass in Pro Stock and also to Sydney Dragway for all their efforts in making the 2012 Nitro Champs a fantastic event for both the racers and the fans.”
Like with most teams, the eyes of Grima have now turned north to the Fuchs Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway in June.
“Because we missed out on doing the Perth Pro Stock round we are out of the championship race, but we are still going to give it our best shot to win the final race of the 2011/2012 ANDRA Pro Series season,” he said.
