A fantastic weekend of racing hit the Alice Springs Inland Dragway, with 80 competitors from Alice Springs, Darwin, QLD, SA, NSW and WA fighting it out for the trophies and prize money.
With temperatures reaching 32deg on Sat and 36deg on Sunday, it was sunshine all round and made for a great 2 days of racing. After 3 rounds of qualifying on Saturday, and 3 rounds of Chicago Shootout on Sunday, the competition was fierce in some brackets to make the final on Sunday afternoon. There was plenty of action for the fans on the hill and with the pits full of methanol and nitro fumes, it really was a great spectacle.
The highlight of the weekend would have to have been the attempts at the track record put down by Steve and Debbie Reed. ANDRA gave permission for them to run the full 1/4 mile and after deciding the track was good enough, they both made the attempt. Debbie had the quickest time and went down the 1/4 Mile with a 6.15@218 mph setting a new track record.
This was our last race for the season, but our new calendar will be on the website soon so check it out, plan a holiday and come drag racing in the Alice!!
Thanks to all the volunteers and the CADRA committee who put in such great efforts over the whole season.
