Traditionally, the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 10 – 13) has been regarded as the biggest weekend in the history of Australian Drag Racing, with this year being the same. The 2011 Castrol EDGE Winternationals, which will be contested as the final round of the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series calendar at Willowbank Raceway is set to showcase the best Pro Stock race ever seen outside North America.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the stakeholders involved with Pro Stock currently, as well as the team’s that are looking to join the current Pro Stock contingent for the 2011/2012 ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock season for making the bracket what it is today,” said Paul Porter PSOA President.
Last year at the 2010 Castrol EDGE Winternationals, record setting weather conditions were evident and as a result Lee Bektash drove his MOPAR Australia, Dodge Stratus to the quickest ever Pro Stock pass – 7.022 seconds, which still currently stands.
“The way that the schedule has been developed for the event allows for Pro Stock to have four qualifying sessions as well as four rounds of eliminations on Monday. The times that qualifying will take place will be similar to the times that eliminations will take place, which means that teams will have good amounts of data, which they can apply during eliminations. I believe that this will be a perfect recipe for producing Australia’s first ever six second Pro Stock pass,” remarked Porter.
At the conclusion of the 2011 Castrol EDGE Winternationals, the 2010/2011 ANDRA Pro Series Championship will have been decided. Currently, three time and reigning champion Aaron Tremayne is leading the championship, whilst second place runner – Dave Newcombe, was the winner of the most recent event – the 2011 Nitro Champs, where Tremayne went out in the second round.
“Fans are bound to witness some of the most exciting racing in Australian Pro Stock history taking into account the current points situation, the amount of teams entered for the event as well as the prospect of the elusive first six second pass in Australia. The 2011 Castrol EDGE Winternationals is an event not to be missed for avid Pro Stock Drag Racing fans,” concluded Porter.
