Tremaynes chase the advantage.

Australian innovation could soon be leading the way in the ANDRA Pro Series’ Pro Stock division with Queensland’s Tremayne family developing better ways of making the horsepower needed in the tightest category in Australian motorsport.

Father Kerry and his sons Aaron and Tyronne have produced four Pro Stock championships already but have been working hard to produce their own cylinder heads in the search for an even greater advantage, which they hope to exploit in round three of the championship in Sydney on March 24 and 25.

In a category where hundredths of second is all that separates the entire field, every piece is crucial. The Sydney round may just prove the worth of the engineering.

“We have been building our own engines for some time now but as with most Australian engine builders we rely heavily on American parts especially in cylinder head design and development,” Kerry said. “We decided to do our own thing and we employed Noonan Race Engineering who said they would help us to produce a race winning cylinder head.”

Some of the state of the art features include a superior oiling and cooling system, pushrod location and rocker and valve geometry designed for increased valve train stability, an integrated spring oiling system and many other features.

“Even though there are a few manufacturers in America, their cylinder heads require extensive work to produce the flow figures that ours have off the shelf,” Kerry explained. “The heads will be available in many forms from blank for the engine builder who wants to do his own thing to a CNC-ported set the same as we have on Tyronne’s car at the moment or a complete ready to bolt on package with billet inlet manifold.”

The research and development period has taken over two years, with plenty of thought going into the design. But it has produced a pay off with high top speeds being recorded by teams running the new cylinder heads.
“Aaron was responsible for the design on the combustion chamber, the inlet and exhaust ports and made frequent changes during the development time to get them right,” Kerry said. “We have seen a significant increase in our power output and was impressed in Perth by the speeds the car ran.
“We have just started in the development of these heads so we have not scratched the surface as to their potential.”
Tyronne Tremayne went to runner up position in the second round of the championship in Perth, helping to prove the worth of the combination and boosting him to third in the ANDRA Pro Series.
Round three at Sydney Dragway will also feature the wild Top Doorslammers, screaming Pro Stock Motorcycles and some of Australia’s best sportsman drag racers in the Rocket Allstars Racing Series.
Gates open at 9am on both days and tickets are available from just $35. For more information visitwww.sydneydragway.com.au.
