This weekend Palmrya Dragway is conducting its pinnacle drag racing event “The Sunstate Nationals” that hosts round two of the ANDRA Rocket Allstars Racing Series, plus an extra feature of this years event is Nostalgia Nitro cars doing match races on the Saturday.
The Sunstate Nationals attracts up to 130 drivers and riders and almost 5000 spectators that make the journey from all over Australia.
Situated in Mackay, in central Queensland, Palmyra Dragway is the oldest privately owned and operated drag racing venue in Australia. Since its opening in 1968, Palmyra Dragway has hosted many spectacular events.
Palmyra Dragway is the only track in North Queensland sanctioned by the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA). With a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteers, Palmyra Dragway has become a local haven for car racing enthusiasts and spectators alike, with over 50,000 people visiting the track every year.
In 2009 Palmyra Dragway underwent a $300,000 re-development to provide a state-of-the-art motor racing facility that ensures safety; promotes skills and talent; and provides a fun atmosphere and comfortable surrounds for spectators. This allows the public of Mackay to view high powered vehicles that normally would require travel to the major cities to see.
