Zachary Peirano was lucky to walk away unharmed from a 290kmh crash at Sydney Dragway over the weekend in his supercharged V8 dragster.
Peirano had just crossed the finish line and released his parachutes when some oil got underneath the tyres and sent his dragster on a wild ride.
The car flipped over several times, coming to rest upside down.
Zachary’s father Peter Peirano said it was a testament to the safety equipment required in the sport that Zachary walked away without a scratch following the high speed incident.
“He had a slight concussion and a bit of bruising but at 290kph that is a good result,” he said. “Cars can be fixed, but people are irreplaceable and this is proof that ISP Safety Gear is a must. Zach had ISP side helmet pads and a foam safety seat plus a HANS type head brace and Simpson seat belts.”
Fortunately the damage to the car is repairable and it will be back on track soon.
