Former Top Bike champion Gavin Spann will make his first appearance of 2013 on the track this weekend in testing at Willowbank Raceway ahead of next weekend's Fuchs Winternationals.
Spann last brought out his Noodle Box-supported, nitro-fuelled motorcycle at the 2012 Australian Nationals in Sydney where the Queenslander ran his quickest time yet, an early shut off 7.16.
There is still much potential to be found and the team’s first six second pass is likely not far away. Spann explained that the fickle nitro motor has an issue with dropping cylinders in different parts of the track.
“The team made good gains with the tune up with half track times in the 4.3 second zone,” he said. “The motorcycle has always had problems in the tune up area, but the team learn by everything they do.”
Spann said the team normally would have run the recent Nitro Champs event, but with his daughter’s wedding on the same weekend he was unable to join the Top Bike field.
Eight entries are lined up for Top Bike, the first full field since 2011.
