The Sunraysia Drag Racing Association are revving up to welcome the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship for the very first time to Mildura Sunset Strip.

Preparations for Round 9 of the Sportsman Championship on September 13-14 are well under way promising to be a real treat for competitor and spectator.

“After somewhat of a lull in racing over the last 12 months the club are throwing everything they have at this event to make it perfect,” said Sunraysia Drag Racing Association President Rob McDonald.

“This couldn’t be done without the assistance of our major sponsors including Hi-Tec Oils and Max Cranes who have joined us as naming right sponsors for the event and we are just over the moon that they have been willing to sign on.”

The club will also host the final round of the 660 Series on August 30 serving as a great lead up to the Sportsman event just two weeks later.

“This will assist in our track preparation and our race committee and volunteers getting back into their groove,” continued McDonald. “The news of the Lamattina brothers, Phil and John coming to do side by side passes in their Top Fuel Dragsters has only raised the excitement of the event to the highest level. To see two Top Fuel Dragsters side by side on our eighth mile track will be the ultimate with the potential for up to three passes per day for the two cars making for an awesome days racing for the spectators.”

In addition to the Top Fuel demonstrations, the Tyre Frying King Gary Myres will be performing burnouts to keep the crowd entertained between the red hot action on the track.

“Everything about this event shows the lengths Sunraysia Drag Racing Association are willing to go to in order to make the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship a premier event in regional Australia. With the Championship heading to the Fuchs Spring Nationals in Adelaide only a couple of weeks later and the end of the season nearing, interest from competitors for this event has been strong and we hope to see over 100 entries taking Mildura by storm.”

Many South Australian and Victorian Racers including current Australian Champions will be hoping to take advantage of the 660 Series to gain some valuable track time and data in order to help with their preparations for the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship round making Mildura the epicentre of Drag Racing in Australia for the next few weeks.

Entries for the 660 series close August 24th and Saturday September 6th for the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship. Both Entry forms are available at: www.sunsetstrip.org.au
