"Gets ready for new Track"
The end of July saw the end of an era with members from the Steel City Drag Club ripping up their existing drag strip in Whyalla. They are now waiting with anticipation for the installation of their new drag strip with the help from members, sponsors and the general public. Steel City are in the initial planning stages of the new track and do appreciate any assistance in; knowledge, monetary sponsorship, labour any other form of assistance that can be offered.
Their aim is to upgrade the only remaining drag strip in South Australia; The new facility will be second to none and capable of holding large meets attracting some of the best competitors from all over the country. Steel City currently holds the “Charlie Dennis Memorial Trophy Series”, “Max Crane Tri Series” a couple of spectacular burn out comps, on one occasion with the assistance from Gary Myers who came to show the locals how’s it’s done. 4-5 Test and Tune dates for novices and practice runs per season, 4 x Race your Mates days with an attempt to get the hoons off our streets with somewhere safe to race. They are also hoping to hold the odd top fueler or door slammers when the new facility is up and running.
So come on guys and girls let’s get on board and support the SCDC, once their strip is up and running we’ll all have a place in SA to compete, the locals make every one welcome and are hanging to see some new vehicles come out their way, why keep those magnificent machines locked away in the shed.
For any information on the upgrade or if you’re looking to make a donation of any kind you can contact the President Peter Datson on 0448 014 322 or Vice President Mark Kuhn 0438 259 079
