Drag racing veteran and long-time Willowbank Raceway Board member Steve Reed has announced his decision to step down from the Board after 15 years.
Reed joined the Board in 2000, was the Australian Top Alcohol Champion in 1994 and the first track champion for the Raceway in 1987 (Competition Eliminator).
Today, he continues to race in the professional-level Top Alcohol category, while being responsible for a number of businesses from his Brendale base – exploits which Reed says will receive more of his time and attention following this decision.
“After 15 years on the Board I think it is time for me to step down and spend more time on my businesses and on just being a racer again,” said Reed.
“This has been something I have been considering for the past 12 months, and I feel now is the right time to move on. While I have stepped away, I wish them all the best.”
Willowbank Raceway President Tony Wedlock thanked Reed for his unwavering support over the past decade and a half.
“During his time on the Board our facility has undergone significant change, and on behalf of the Willowbank Raceway Board I would like to thank him for his unwavering support over the past 15 years, and wish him well as he refocuses his concentration on his racing and business activities,” said Wedlock.
