The team comprising Australian Modified champion Craig Baker and his Junior Dragster son Josh, are donating $1300 in prize money accrued from the recent Portland Funny Car meeting, Calder Park’s John Taverna Classic and the Adelaide round of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship to the Love Me Love You foundation.
Spearheaded by former Australian Rules footballer Lance Picioane, Love Me Love You is a foundation committed to the prevention, intervention and control of youth mental health disorders and substance abuse.
Through awareness, education and management programs LMLY aims to empower youths to build a culture that helps them strive to their potential in life. It is based on the experience of Picioane who has also relied on the strength and support of family, friends and colleagues to beat mental illness.
Team Baker became involved through Craig’s wife Audrey who was inspired by the former Adelaide, Hawthorn and Kangaroos player as a member of his fitness training group.
“I am inspired by Lance,” she said. “His vision to decrease the percentages of youth who are affected by mental health related illnesses is awesome.”
Earlier this week the March With Me walk departed Sydney bound for Melbourne and this weekend Audrey will be participating in the 90km leg between Goulburn and Yass over two days. So far she has raised almost $2000 toward the cause – including the $1300 from Team Baker Drag Racing.
“I am very proud to play just a little part of this important and worthy cause. My part of the walk will be to join and support Lance on the Goulburn to Yass leg this weekend. Please give generously as every little bit helps. Thank you!”
Team Baker will be ferrying a number of walkers up to Goulburn on Saturday (including Audrey) and bringing other participants back to Melbourne on Sunday to help out with the two and half week trek.
You can follow the progress of the March With Me walk on the Love Me Love You Facebook page or get involved by donating at www.lovemeloveyou.org.au.
Team Baker Drag Racing will next be in action at the Southern Nationals presented by Fiat Professional & Essendon Chrysler Jeep Dodge at Calder Park Raceway April 4-5, 2014.
