Darren Fry will be able to satisfy a long obsession with Funny Cars come the Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race at Willowbank Raceway when he makes his debut runs in Top Alcohol.

The Queensland-based racer has worked his way up through the ranks of the sport, from first playing with his street car to a 6.5 second Supercharged Outlaws altered.

The new Top Alcohol Funny Car will present his biggest test yet.

“This is going to be a very steep learning curve but we are willing to take things slow and learn as much as we can from our fellow racers,” Fry said. “Being competitive in this very tough bracket is going to take time and patience, but we hope to get there one day.”

Fry won’t be coming into the professional ranks of Top Alcohol a complete novice. As well as his own racing experience, the team will be getting assistance from 2012 Winternationals runner up Jamie Noonan and Peter Kapiris’ crew chief Mark Brew.

The car is equipped with the latest in equipment including the Noonan X1 cylinder heads, a PSI supercharger and a B&J Transmission.

To back up the go-fast bits, the presentation is second to none with Fry explaining that the Chev Monte Carlo body has been completely airbrushed.

“Wilky’s Pro Paintz from the Sunshine Coast have done an amazing job with over 100 hours spent painting the car and there has even been a mini movie made showing the paint scheme coming from ideas and drawings to what you see on the car here today,” he said. “The team is just blown away by the dedication and hard work that has gone into the styling.”

Fry will join the stars of Top Alcohol at the Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race tomorrow and Saturday at Willowbank Raceway.

Qualifying starts from 5pm on both days.
