Stuart Bishop, Aaron Tremayne and Luke Crowley ruled an abbreviated first day of the Lady Daly Hotel Springnationals at Adelaide International Raceway where track records fell but cold conditions eventually had the final say.
Qualifying was limited to just a single night session after dew began to settle on the track later in the night, with a decision coming from teams to postpone the second qualifying session to Saturday.
Stuart Bishop’s 5.076 (above) marked a new track record for Top Doorslammers, which are running over a 1000 feet distance due to the short Adelaide braking area. All the more impressive was the fact it was Bishop’s first ever pass at the venue.
Ben Bray’s 5.270 and Victor Bray’s 5.345 were the only other representative passes from the session.
In Pro Stock, Aaron Tremayne’s opening salvo of 7.102 was not bettered, claiming a track record and a provisional top spot.
Championship aspirant Wayne Daley settled into second with a 7.147 from his first look at the track while an early shut off 7.387 by the second of the Tremayne brothers, Tyronne, held for third.
Meanwhile in Pro Stock Motorcycle, championship leader Luke Crowley (below) dropped a bomb on the field with a 7.253 pass to be over four tenths of a second ahead of second placed Maurice Allen’s 7.657.
The remaining two qualifying sessions plus eliminations will kick off from 1pm on Saturday.
