Wayne Newby comes back to confront some demons this weekend February 23-24 at Adelaide International Raceway’s Aeroflow Summer Speedfest, returning to the scene of a dramatic final round crash last year.
Newby’s JBS Tools dragster overpowered the track and turned right into the safety barriers, writing off the rail car (below) and forcing the early debut of a new Top Alcohol Funny Car (above).
“We are looking forward to seeing how the car performs in Adelaide over the 1000 feet this weekend,” he said. “Unfortunately we can’t use the data that we got from the dragster last year, but I love a challenge and am sure that we can put down some good times.”
Newby has been testing the Funny Car recently and despite doing some damage to the body when he hit some timing markers, the results have given the team plenty of information ahead of the third round of the championship.
With the track record set at 4.898 seconds by John Cannuli last year, Wayne and the team are hoping to break into the four second zone as well this time around.
“It’s a tough field and with nine cars entered the competition will be fierce – but we are ready to race and you can be guaranteed that we will give it our best shot,” he said.
Qualifying starts from 9am Saturday, with racing from 9am Sunday.
