It was a great night for it as the 43rd Westernationals kicked into gear on Friday with qualifying for Round 3 of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship.
Competition Eliminator, Competition Bike, Super Stock and Supercharged Outlaws got underway with their first and only pass for the night while Super Street, Modified Bike, Super Sedan, Modified and Junior Dragster each enjoyed two of their four qualifying runs for the weekend.
Jake Chaisty set the tone in Super Stock going under the national record for the second Aeroflow round in a row with a 9.437 on the 9.960 index.
Chaisty was a surprised but happy customer though he isn’t getting carried away with three qualifying runs still to come.
“I’m happy with the car and I was surprised it went that fast,” he said. “It felt like a good run and everything went perfect. I hope we can stay top qualifier but you never know.”
Andrew Katavatis sits atop the Comp Eliminator standings crossing the stripe with a 7.255 ET on a 7.720 index while Greg Durack leads Comp Bike thanks to a pass of 6.838 on the 7.630.
In other qualifying action Vince Belladonna ran 6.725 for top spot in Supercharged Outlaws, Michelle Osborn leads Modified with a 7.042, Warwick Pike was the only driver in Super Sedan to go under 8.00 with a 7.721, Clinton Urban sits atop Modified Bike running 8.459, Bernie Ellerby leads Super Street with 11.035 and Stuart Moorhouse is number one in Junior Dragster having posted 8.014.
