(Team release)
The infamous MacTrack 51st Annual Westernationals to be held at Perth Motorplex on the 5th and 6th of March is the ultimate in ANDRA Championship Drag Racing in Western Australia. Noted as having the toughest fields across the country in all brackets of racing – a select few have glowed with the Gold Xmas Tree in hand, while many have suffered agonising defeat on a typically hot weekend.
This year’s prestigious event is headlined by the Nitro Max Series, as well as Round 6 of the Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle National Championship and Round 8 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series
Winning the Gold Christmas Tree (a gold-plated replica of the drag strip starting lights and immediately associated with the sport) is the dream that everyone has, but only a handful fulfil. The 51st Westernationals beckons 19 Junior pilots wanting to get their names in the history books.
Lucas Green from Green Family Racing is one of those young aspiring stars. After a promising 2020/2021 season in B/JD coming third in the state championship, the first season in A/JD promised to be exciting. Several close finishes and a runner up and semi final have been only a glimpse of potential.
Fast forward to this event, lots of hard work has gone into preparing a consistent car and driver. Lots of testing, perseverance and study has gone into this over the season.
“While the results haven’t been what we hoped, we are confident that we’re on this meeting. It’s a season that has left us a fair way back from where we wanted after missing a race. I’d love to repay Mum, Dad, Caitlin, our sponsors and our supporters their faith by holding the Gold Christmas Tree up on Sunday night,” Lucas said.
The team are well aware that the competition is tough, but extremely even.
“Every time I come to the line it’s a hard race. Reaction times are so critical, anything over 0.050 is a worry and really means we must be spot on with our dial in. There have been so many different winners this season that we know we have to put all our hard work into play,” explained Lucas calmly.
Green Family Racing would like to thank its sponsors – Riverside Mechanical, BL and SG Lake Brick Cartage, WA Suspensions, ADR Engines, ACS Sports Images and Cajed Racewear. The team also sends many thanks to the hard-working volunteers from the Perth Motorplex and ANDRA who ensure a safe and fast racetrack, as well as the West Coast Junior Dragster Association (WCJDA), Western Australia Drag Racing Association (WADRA) and associated sponsors, many thanks for your support.
Finally, the team wishes all their fellow racers in all classes a safe and enjoyable weekend
