During the recent X-Champs at Sydney Dragway, Dallas Whyte and Steve Fowler completed the first ever side-by-side six-second pass at over 200 mph for naturally aspirated vehicles in Group Three.
Whyte recorded a 6.75 at 205.56 mph and Fowler a 6.91 at 201.07 mph. Unfortunately for Whyte it was the high point of the weekend as he was eliminated in Round 1 while Fowler would go on to win the Super Sedan final.
“Steve Fowler approached me just before the third qualifier and asked if I would line up with him, as he wanted to try and do a dual six second pass,” explains Whyte.
“I had an idea lining up that if everything went as good as we were going, and likewise for him, that it would be a good pass and probably the first.”
“It was really good having two six second cars side by side, and to both put down a great pass, it was a good run. I was thinking it would probably look pretty good from the stands.”
“The Camaro hooked up well as it had been all day and the days before in testing running consistently in the 6.70s, and my light on that pass was pretty good too with a 0.10, 6.75 at 205.66 mph, a little bit off its pace but still a nice run, and after seeing the Fast Performance videos footage that night, it was a good run.”
In first round eliminators Whyte blew the tyres ending his raceday prematurely but he took satisfaction out of top qualifying for the second year in a row alongside his daughter who matched her father’s effort in Junior Dragster.
“This year I top qualified again and was really proud of our daughter Madalen who made her National debut in Junior Dragster but has only been racing for two months prior. She top qualified too with a perfect 8.00, which was amazing for us both to do that together.”
Whyte’s goal now is to get back to racing on a regular basis with the hopes of competing in local Track Championship rounds and the Australian Nationals in November where a national record might be under threat!
